Sea School - Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián: We will wait for you at our facilities next to the Ondarreta ramp to equip you and conduct the initial briefing before setting sail towards Monpás.

Rentals and scheduled activities bookings

To make a reservation, 100% of the total amount must be paid. Until the payment is made, the reservation is not considered confirmed or valid.

Custom activities bookings

If the number of participants is modified 72h before the activity, the new total price will be recalculated based on the activity tables available on the website.

Cancellations of rentals and scheduled activities

The client may cancel the requested services and is entitled to a refund. Canceling between 72h and 24h in advance incurs a 50% penalty. Canceling between 24h and 0h or not showing up incurs a 100% penalty of the amount paid.

Cancellations of custom activities

The cancellation of one or more participants 72h to 24h in advance incurs a 50% penalty on the part paid per person(s). Within 24h, a 100% penalty applies.

Justified medical cancellations

In case of cancellation due to a JUSTIFIED medical reason or death of a relative, the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián will offer a voucher valid for one calendar year to carry out the contracted activity.

Included insurance

The price includes civil liability and accident insurance. It is mandatory to correctly, truthfully, and completely fill in all the participant fields for the subscription.

Conditions in case of adverse weather

In case of adverse weather conditions or rough seas, the ability to make reservations will be blocked. Affected individuals will receive the option of a refund or a date change.

1. What is the exact route of the kayak tour to Monpás?
The guided tour starts at the Sea School of the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián, from where we go down to the beach. We navigate across La Concha Bay, passing by the Paseo Nuevo and the mouth of the Urumea River, until reaching the slopes of Mount Ulía and the tip of Monpás. On the way back, we make an exclusive stop at Santa Clara Island before returning to the starting point.
2. What is the Monpás Flysch and why visit it by kayak?
The Monpás Flysch is an impressive geological formation of sedimentary rock layers located on the slopes of Mount Ulía, facing the open sea. Visiting it by kayak allows you to approach a rugged, wild natural landscape far from the urban bustle of San Sebastián at water level, which is very difficult to access by land.
3. Do we get out of the kayak on Santa Clara Island?
Yes. One of the great attractions of this tour is that we temporarily disembark on Santa Clara Island, declared a National Historic Center. There we take a break where you can enjoy a refreshing swim and contemplate the panoramic view of La Concha Bay from the middle of the sea.
4. How much time are we actually paddling during the 3 hours?
Of the total 3 hours of the activity, approximately 30-40 minutes are spent on preparation on land (handing out wetsuits, life jackets, and safety briefing). The actual navigation and paddling time is around 2 hours, plus the rest and swimming time on Santa Clara Island.
5. Can I bring my mobile phone to take pictures of the Flysch or the island?
Yes, you can bring it, but you do so at your own risk using 100% waterproof cases and lanyards attached to the life jacket. The Monpás section has open sea swells, so the risk of splashes or dropping the device is real.
6. What physical level is required for the kayak route to Monpás?
The activity has a difficulty rated as "Medium". You don't need to be an athlete, but an acceptable physical condition is required to paddle consistently for 2 hours, especially since the outer section towards Monpás leaves the protection of the bay and may present resistance from currents or swells.
7. Is it dangerous to leave the bay towards the Monpás area?
It is not dangerous because the tour is always supervised by an expert Certified Guide who knows the currents and evaluates the state of the sea in real time. In addition, we use stable and unsinkable kayaks, and the use of a life jacket is mandatory at all times.
8. Is it strictly mandatory to know how to swim?
Yes, knowing how to swim autonomously is an indispensable and exclusionary requirement. Even though you wear a life jacket and are accompanied by the guide, you will be in deep water areas (both in the bay and in the open sea), so knowing how to swim is essential for your safety and peace of mind.
9. Can children go on this kayak route?
The minimum age required to do this tour paddling individually (in their own seat/kayak) is 10 years old, assuming the minor has the physical capacity and endurance to face a medium-difficulty route lasting 3 hours.
10. Are the kayaks individual or double?
The Sea School of the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián has both individual and double kayaks. The assignment will depend on the size of the group, the technical availability of the day, and the guide's assessment (double kayaks are usually faster and more stable for sections like Monpás).
11. Do you provide a wetsuit or do I go in a swimsuit?
The use of wetsuits is completely included in the price. Its use will depend on the time of year and the temperature of the Cantabrian water. In the middle of summer, many users prefer to go in a swimsuit and lycra shirt, but in spring or autumn, the wetsuit is highly recommended and we will provide it at no extra cost.
12. Where can I leave my clothes, backpack, and valuables?
The Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián provides a secure storage space at the Sea School facilities (next to the Ondarreta ramp). You can safely leave your belongings there while enjoying the crossing.
13. Are there showers available at the end of the kayak tour?
Yes. Unlike a simple rental on the beach, this premium tour gives you access to our facilities. At the end of the route, you will be able to access the changing rooms of the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián and enjoy a comforting hot shower before continuing your day in San Sebastián.
14. What kind of footwear do you recommend for this route?
It is recommended to use neoprene booties or closed sandals/water shoes that can get wet. Since we are going to disembark on Santa Clara Island (where there may be rocks or shells), going completely barefoot is not advisable, although it is comfortable for paddling.
15. What happens if I wear prescription glasses?
If you need your prescription glasses (or polarized sunglasses) during navigation, it is absolutely essential that you bring a securing strap (neoprene band or similar) adjusted to your neck. Without this system, it is very likely to lose them in the sea if you fall into the water or are splashed by a wave.
16. What happens to the tour if there is bad weather or big waves?
Safety is a priority. If the maritime forecast indicates strong swells (especially dangerous in the Monpás area) or a storm, the Certified Guide will cancel the outing. In this case, the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián will offer to reschedule the route for another date or fully refund the reservation.
17. Can the route be modified during the activity?
Yes. The guide is the highest authority on the water. If during the crossing the wind suddenly picks up or the open sea currents towards Monpás become complex, the guide may modify the itinerary prioritizing protected routes inside La Concha Bay.
18. We are a group of 6 people, what rate applies to us?
For a group of 6 people, the rate corresponding to the "Group of 5 to 9 people" bracket applies, which in 2026 is €41.50 per person for the general public, or €33.00 per person if you prove your status as members of the Real Club de Tenis de San Sebastián. Membership status does not apply to the whole group in case one or more members are members and the rest are not.
19. How far in advance can I cancel if my group cannot attend?
Custom activities can be canceled. If you notify between 72h and 24h in advance, a 50% penalty on the amount paid will be applied. If the cancellation occurs less than 24 hours before the start of the route, the penalty will be 100% and there will be no refund.
20. Is a minimum group size required to guarantee the tour departure?
The minimum size to book and carry out this exclusive guided route is 2 people (base rate of €73 per person). From there, we organize the tour for your private group (up to a maximum of 19 people), thus guaranteeing a personalized and safe experience.
